What happens when you send a file.

You send the file

STEP, PDF, DXF, or even a clear photo with dimensions. Use the RFQ form, email, or text us a screenshot. Whatever's easy.

We read it

A real machinist opens the file and reads it. Material, tolerances, finish, quantity, deadline — all noted.

DFM flags

If we see something that'll burn money — a deep undercut, a wall thickness that'll vibrate, a tolerance that doesn't need to be that tight — we tell you before quoting.

Quote arrives

Typical: 72 hours. Faster on rush. The number comes back as a real, signed quote — not an estimate from a pricing engine.

You approve

Reply with PO, payment terms, or just a "go." We confirm material in-house or order it; lead time clock starts.

Cut, inspect, ship

Programs written, fixtures set, parts cut. First-article inspection. Pack and ship — or schedule a pickup.

DXF Fine for 2D parts (waterjet, simple turning).

Hand sketch Yes, really. We'll build a model with you.

Common questions about quoting.

How fast can I get a CNC quote? +

Typically within 72 hours of receiving a STEP file or PDF. Faster on rush. Quotes are written by the operator, not generated by a pricing algorithm.

Do you charge for quotes? +

Standard quotes are free. If a job needs a deep DFM review or assembly-level scope, we'll discuss before doing the work.

What information should I include in the RFQ? +

Material (or we'll suggest one), quantity, target tolerance, surface finish, target lead time, and any application context that matters. The more we know up front, the better the quote.

Do I need a CAD model? +

No — but it helps. PDF drawings, DXFs, dimensioned photos, and even hand sketches are all workable starting points.

How do I send files to The Shop? +

Use the RFQ form on this site, or email service@weburnforaliving.com. Files up to 50 MB by email; for larger STEP assemblies, we'll send a Drive link.
